The History Behind Sash UK…

Long standing tradition of craftsmanship and quality

1965 – 1999

Founded in 1965, the company, then known as ‘Bean & Morrell’, successfully built its reputation on traditional craftsmanship with both founders being qualified ‘time served’ joiners.

The company began to flourish and soon picked up orders from the New Build housing sector. As word of their Quality and Service spread, so demand from the domestic sector grew.

It was in the early 80’s that the demand for replacement windows really took off and it was around this time that the company changed its name to Sash UK, which stands for Specialist Aluminium Softwood and Hardwood.

At around the same time emphasis was being placed on energy efficient products and the introduction of ‘double glazing’ was right at the forefront of a Government led initiative.

Sash UK was one of the pioneers of PVC-u windows in this country. As business grew the company invested in purpose built facilities and creating a skilled workforce capable of embracing latest production technology.

2000 – Present

By 2000 Sash UK had created one of the largest purpose built window and door manufacturing facilities in the North of England. At 72,000ft2 it ensured that Sash UK was able to continue leading standards and quality within the industry.

As business continued to expand in the domestic, commercial and public sectors, Sash UK soon outgrew its premises and took the decision to increase the size of its current site by 40,000ft2 in 2002.

At a total of 112,000ft2, our South Yorkshire manufacturing headquarters, with its automated product lines, is now one of the most advanced in the UK.

In recognition of how far the company has come since its formation, we were delighted to receive an official visit by Prince Andrew in 2005.

Sash UK continues to invest in the business where it improves service or enhances the products that we offer to customers.

Latest investments include a brand new production line for our composite door range and bringing the manufacture of our vertical sliding windows in house allowing us to reduce leadtime to customers and improve quality.

More recently we have invested in a state-of-the-art spray booth that allows us to offer up to 150 different RAL colours, again on reduced leadtimes.

As a business we remain committed to investing in our people with ongoing training and development programmes. The knowledge and experience of our people has always been a key strength.

Trading as a successful business at the forefront of the windows and doors industry doesn’t mean we are complacent. We remain focussed on customer and industry needs, with an eye firmly on driving forward further improvements in energy efficiency and sustainability.
